The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has hosted science students from Government Girls Secondary School, Dukawuya, Kano State, on an educational excursion to its Kumbotso 330/132kV Transmission Substation as part of efforts to promote technical knowledge and inspire interest in engineering careers.
The visit, which took place on August 4, 2026, gave the students practical exposure to electricity transmission operations, complementing classroom learning with hands-on experience.
During the tour, TCN engineers took the students through the electricity transmission process, explaining the functions of key substation equipment, control room operations and the safety procedures observed across the national transmission network.
The interactive session also enabled the students to engage directly with the engineers, ask questions and gain first-hand knowledge of power system operations.
According to TCN, the excursion enhanced the students’ understanding of Nigeria’s electricity transmission infrastructure while encouraging them to pursue careers in science, engineering and technology.
The company said the initiative highlights the importance of collaboration between educational institutions and industry in developing the next generation of technical professionals.
TCN added that the programme reflects its commitment to engineering excellence, technical knowledge and capacity development by providing learning opportunities that expose young Nigerians to real-world power transmission operations and support the growth of the skilled workforce needed to strengthen the country’s electricity sector.
