The Nigerian Navy has intensified its crackdown on smuggling and cross-border crimes along the nation’s maritime borders, successfully intercepting 364 bags of foreign parboiled rice suspected to have been smuggled into Nigeria. The seizure was carried out by personnel of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Badagry during a series of intelligence-led operations within its area of responsibility.
The consignment, consisting of 302 intact bags and 62 damaged bags, was formally handed over to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Western Marine Command, on 18 August 2026 at the FOB Badagry Jetty. This handover was conducted in strict compliance with existing regulations and established procedures.
This operation highlights the Nigerian Navy’s ongoing commitment to securing the country’s maritime borders and protecting national economic interests. It also underscores the critical importance of collaboration between the Navy and other government agencies in combating smuggling and other illicit cross-border activities.
The Nigerian Navy reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining effective maritime security and supporting relevant agencies in safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial waters, borders, and economic assets.
Members of the public and maritime stakeholders were encouraged to provide credible information to assist security agencies in preventing and disrupting criminal activities within Nigeria’s maritime environment.
