In a significant demonstration of inter-agency collaboration, the Nigerian Navy and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have destroyed illicit drugs and psychotropic substances valued at approximately ₦301 billion.
The public destruction exercise took place at the Nigerian Navy Marine Centre, Navy Town, Ojo, Lagos, underscoring Nigeria’s firm stance against drug trafficking.
The operation, conducted by the NDLEA Lagos State Strategic Command, saw the destruction of 329,865.585 kilogrammes of assorted illicit drugs seized between April 2025 and May 2026. This included 246,864.535 kilograms confiscated by the Lagos State Strategic Command and an additional 83,001.050 kilograms recovered by the MMIA, Tin Can, Apapa Strategic Commands, and the NDLEA Marine Command.
The destroyed substances comprised cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, various strains of cannabis, ephedrine, tramadol, codeine syrup, and other opioids, with a combined estimated street value of ₦301,058,076,000.
Rear Admiral Abubakar Abdullahi Mustapha, Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, delivering a goodwill message on behalf of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, highlighted the critical role of sustained inter-agency cooperation in tackling emerging security threats.
He praised the longstanding partnership between the Nigerian Navy and NDLEA in disrupting illicit drug networks and intercepting vessels involved in trafficking.
Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (Rtd), Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, described the destruction exercise as a powerful symbol of Nigeria’s collective determination to eliminate seized illicit substances from circulation and cut off resources that fuel criminal activities.
The Nigerian Navy reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with NDLEA and other agencies to dismantle drug trafficking networks, enhance national security, and ensure a safer maritime environment.
