The Federal government has expressed concern over the climate change and the threat in water development management in Nigeria, urging experts to proffer lasting solutions.

Ibrahim who was represented by Mr. Segun Babarinde, Head of Climate Change FMWR, said that the purpose of the training workshop is to create awareness on impacts of climate change on Water Resources development and management in Nigeria by bringing together scientists, engineers, environmentalists and other stakeholders in the sector to proffer solution to the effects of climate change.

He added that climate change is a global phenomenon affecting countries across the world and advised people around the world and Nigeria in particular to be part of the solution, “together we have the power to limit the effects of climate change.” he noted.

According to him, “In Northern Nigeria, we have cases of drought and desertification, while in the Southern part of the country, effects on sea level rise is becoming increasingly obvious”.

He said that there is need to develop suitable adaptation programmes towards enhancing capacity of the people through regular training.

Also speaking, Engr. Saheed Aremu, Managing Director of Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority, commended Federal Government for organizing the training workshop.
