The Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Bukola Olopade, has urged corporate organizations, private investors and other stakeholders to increase investment in sports to build a sustainable and commercially viable industry in Nigeria.
Olopade made the call during an executive strategic engagement with sports stakeholders, corporate partners and sports administrators, stressing that a lasting sports legacy requires transparent funding, private-sector collaboration and investment in grassroots and elite sports infrastructure.
“Legacy means a lot to me. Show us the money, and let’s build the legacy together,” he said.
He identified commercial viability, accountability, infrastructure development and public-private partnerships as key priorities for transforming the country’s sports sector.
According to him, the Commission is developing transparent frameworks to ensure that public funds and corporate investments deliver measurable results across sporting disciplines.
Olopade also emphasized the need to modernize sports facilities, strengthen grassroots talent identification and improve long-term athlete welfare programmes.
He called on corporate organizations, international bodies and private investors to partner with the Commission in developing sustainable sports initiatives that would outlast individual administrations.
The NSC, he said, would prioritize institutional reforms to position sports as a viable economic sector capable of promoting youth empowerment, national unity and Nigeria’s international standing.
The Commission urged corporate bodies, brand sponsors and sports federations to support its strategic direction as it prepares to roll out new sports infrastructure and development initiatives.
