The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Kano Region, has held a coordination meeting with the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) and other stakeholders to discuss a proposed outage and load diversion for the elongation of Towers 27 and 28 on the Kumbotso–Dan Agundi 132kV Transmission Line.
The meeting, held on Monday, October 5, 2026, at the TCN Regional Conference Room in Kano, was chaired by the General Manager (Transmission), Kano Region, Engr. M. K. Bello.
Bello expressed confidence in the competence of the project contractors but stressed the need for a thorough assessment of proposed technical connections and switching arrangements before implementation to guarantee operational safety and network reliability.
The NISO Regional Operations Coordinator, Engr. Kunle Egbedinni, emphasized strict compliance with the Grid Code, particularly the requirement for planned outage applications to be submitted at least 14 days in advance for approval.
In his contribution, KEDCO’s Head of Operations and Maintenance, Engr. Sabiu Haruna, proposed diverting the load served by Dan Agundi 132kV Substation to alternative substations, including Dakata, Tamburawa, Rimin Zakara, Kumbotso and Wudil, within a proposed two-day outage window.
Stakeholders reviewed the capacity of the transmission network and alternative supply arrangements to minimize disruptions during the exercise.
They noted that Hadejia 132kV Substation could not accommodate the entire 60-megawatt load earmarked for diversion, prompting further assessments of supply options through Tamburawa, Rimin Zakara and Dakata substations.
The meeting also underscored the importance of protecting personnel and equipment throughout the project.
At the end of the meeting, participants pledged to strengthen inter-agency coordination, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and facilitate the timely execution of the tower elongation project.
