The Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has called for stronger accountability, discipline and professionalism among its staff to improve productivity and institutional service delivery.
The Chairman of RMAFC, Dr. Mohammed Bello Shehu, made the call at a two-day roundtable on Performance Management and Discipline organized for members of the Commission’s Personnel Matters Committee (PMC) at Chelsea Hotels from October 13 to 14, 2026.
Represented by the Federal Commissioner representing Cross River State and Chairman of the PMC, Hon. Ntufam Eyo-Nsa Whiley, Shehu described performance management as a strategic tool for enhancing individual and organizational effectiveness.
He said effective performance management enables institutions to set clear expectations, monitor progress, identify capacity gaps, reward excellence and address underperformance, while discipline ensures ethical conduct and compliance with established rules.
The chairman urged participants to develop practical strategies for improving staff appraisal, handling disciplinary matters and managing confidential personnel records in line with the Public Service Rules and the Public Service Performance Management System.
He stressed that the success of the roundtable would be measured by how effectively participants applied the knowledge gained to improve workplace conduct, accountability and institutional performance.
Also speaking, the Vice Chairman of the PMC and Federal Commissioner representing Plateau State, Hon. Sa’ad Ibrahim Bello, said effective performance management requires continuous monitoring of staff activities and achievements to determine whether individual and organizational targets are being met.
He emphasized the need to equip personnel managers with the skills to set clear goals, establish performance indicators and conduct objective assessments.
Similarly, the Deputy Director and Head of Training and Capacity Building at RMAFC, Mr. Haruna Umar, described the programme as a timely initiative to strengthen staff performance management and improve service delivery.
The Chief Executive Officer of Future Vision Possibilities Ltd, the consulting firm facilitating the programme, said the engagement was designed to refresh participants’ knowledge and introduce practical approaches to performance management and discipline.
He also recommended that future capacity-building programmes focus on governance, committee procedures, strategic decision-making, meeting efficiency and report writing.
Other participants included Federal Commissioners Omowumi Olubunmi Ogunlola, representing Ekiti State; Hon. Mohammed Kabeer Usman, representing Gombe State; Amb. Ayuba Ngbako, representing the Federal Capital Territory; and Hon. Aruviere Egharhevwa, representing Delta State.
The two-day roundtable features sessions on performance management, SMART goal-setting, employee engagement, appraisal practices, discipline, communication and emotional intelligence. It also covers committee administration, including agenda preparation, minute-taking, records classification and decision tracking.
The programme underscores RMAFC’s commitment to strengthening institutional capacity and building a professional, disciplined and results-oriented workforce.
