The Federal Government of Nigeria has congratulated the Government and people of the Gabonese Republic on the occasion of the country’s Independence Anniversary, celebrated on Monday, August 17, 2026.
In a statement issued in Abuja by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the government on behalf of its people, extended warm felicitations and best wishes to Gabon on the significant national occasion.
Ebienfa noted that Nigeria joined Gabon in celebrating its rich history, national identity and achievements since gaining independence in 1960.
Nigeria described Gabon as an important partner in Central Africa, noting that relations between both countries were anchored on mutual respect, African solidarity and a shared commitment to regional peace, stability and sustainable development.
According to the statement, both countries continue to collaborate in promoting African cooperation and integration, while sharing common interests in addressing contemporary challenges such as climate change, energy security, biodiversity conservation, economic diversification and sustainable development.
Nigeria also commended Gabon’s contributions to environmental conservation, regional security, economic development, peace and stability in Central Africa.
The Federal Government expressed its readiness to deepen bilateral cooperation with Gabon in areas including trade, energy, environmental protection, maritime cooperation, education and cultural exchange.
It noted that increased collaboration between public and private institutions in both countries would further strengthen the existing bonds of friendship and produce greater mutual benefits.
“As Gabon commemorates this significant national milestone, Nigeria celebrates with the Gabonese people and looks forward to further strengthening the cordial and mutually beneficial relationship between both countries,” the statement said.
Nigeria wished the Government and people of Gabon continued peace, prosperity and sustainable development.abon
