The Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) has disowned a circulating document falsely soliciting financial support for the production, printing, and nationwide distribution of the Revised Basic Education Curriculum (BEC) for the 2026/2027 academic session.
In a disclaimer issued on Monday in Abuja, NERDC’s Executive Secretary, Professor Salisu Shehu, described the document as fictitious, frivolous, and unauthorized, urging government agencies, educational institutions, and members of the public to disregard it entirely.
“Our attention has been drawn to fictitious and frivolous documents and correspondences purporting to emanate from the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council, requesting financial support for the production, printing, and nationwide distribution of the Revised Basic Education Curriculum covering the 2026/2027 academic session,” the statement read in part.
“The Management of NERDC hereby strongly and unequivocally disclaims any document or correspondence, under any guise or arrangement, requesting support from any institution for the production, printing, and distribution of the Revised Basic Education Curriculum.”
According to Prof. Shehu, the Council has already finalized arrangements for the effective production, printing, and distribution of the revised curriculum through appropriate federal and state education authorities, agencies, and departments — rendering any external appeal for funding unnecessary and unauthorized.
He reassured stakeholders that NERDC remains committed to protecting the integrity of its official communications and safeguarding the credibility of Nigeria’s national curriculum from impersonation and fraud.
The Council further advised that any legitimate updates concerning the Revised Basic Education Curriculum would be communicated solely through its official channels, and encouraged the public to verify any such correspondence directly with NERDC before acting on it.
