The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, will lead discussions on the achievements, reforms and challenges of Nigeria’s education sector under the administration of President Bola Tinubu at the 2026 Education Summit organised by the Education Correspondents Association of Nigeria (ECAN).

The summit scheduled to hold on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Abuja, is themed: “Three Years of the Tinubu Administration: Assessing Reforms, Progress, and Challenges in Nigeria’s Education Sector.”

According to ECAN, the event will provide a high-level platform for policymakers, education experts, academics, development partners, researchers, civil society organisations, school administrators, students and media professionals to evaluate the impact of the Federal Government’s education reforms and chart pathways for addressing outstanding challenges in the sector.

In a statement issued on Monday, ECAN Chairman, Chux Ukwuatu, said the summit is designed to stimulate meaningful policy dialogue while celebrating individuals and institutions whose contributions have significantly advanced education and human capital development in Nigeria.

He disclosed that the Minister of Education will officially declare the summit open, with participants expected from key government institutions, education agencies, academia, development organisations and the media.

A major highlight of the event will be the presentation of awards to distinguished education leaders in recognition of their visionary leadership and outstanding contributions to the sector.

Among those billed for the honours are the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa; the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Abdullahi Ribadu; the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Arc. Sonny Echono; the Registrar of the National Examinations Council (NECO), Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi; and the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, alongside other eminent stakeholders.

ECAN noted that the summit underscores the media’s commitment to promoting informed discourse on education policies and reforms, while fostering collaboration among stakeholders towards strengthening Nigeria’s education system.
