The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and Cosmopolitan University have agreed to strengthen collaboration on climate-smart innovation, with plans to formalize their partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on artificial intelligence, digital agriculture and meteorological research.
The agreement was reached on Monday when the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike, received the Vice-Chancellor of Cosmopolitan University, Prof. Carl Adams, on a courtesy visit to the agency.
Speaking during the meeting, Prof. Anosike said both institutions share a common vision of translating scientific research into practical solutions that benefit society. He highlighted NiMet’s achievements in producing research documents to support national development and commended the university for embracing emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, to promote climate-ready and climate-resilient communities.
In his remarks, Prof. Adams reaffirmed the university’s commitment to developing the next generation of indigenous AI scientists and advancing climate-smart innovations powered by satellite data and artificial intelligence applications.
Under the proposed partnership, NiMet and Cosmopolitan University will collaborate on climate-smart and digital agriculture for smallholder farmers, aviation research, staff exchange programmes, data analytics, AI applications, and the use of meteorological information to improve livelihoods.
The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied on the visit by the university’s Pro-Chancellor and other members of its senior management team.
