The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has urged Nigerians living abroad to continue celebrating the country’s achievements and projecting its positive image rather than focusing solely on negative narratives.

Dabiri-Erewa made the appeal during visits to two distinguished Nigerians in the United Kingdom—Christopher Adegoke, Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council, and Rosaline Oguro, the newly sworn-in Mayor of London Borough of Islington.

She described Adegoke’s emergence as the first person from an ethnic minority background to chair Nottinghamshire County Council since its establishment in 1889 as a testament to the excellence, resilience and leadership qualities of Nigerians in the diaspora.

While receiving the NiDCOM boss in her office, Mayor Oguro expressed appreciation for the visit and also encouraged Nigerians to continue projecting a positive image of the country wherever they reside.

Dabiri-Erewa also celebrated the outstanding academic achievements of Dorcas Akanbi, who graduated from Rostov State Medical University with an exceptional CGPA of 4.90/5.00, and Monilola Adeshina, who emerged as the valedictorian and best graduating student of the Medical Class of 2026 at Medical University of Silesia.

According to her, the achievements of the two medical graduates reflect the brilliance, determination and global competitiveness of Nigerian youths, while enhancing the country’s image on the international stage.

She commended all four Nigerians for making the nation proud and encouraged other Nigerians abroad to continue striving for excellence while serving as worthy ambassadors of the country.

Dabiri-Erewa stressed that although every nation faces challenges, Nigerians should deliberately celebrate the country’s successes and the positive contributions its citizens continue to make across the world.

She added that the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu is implementing far-reaching reforms and critical infrastructure projects aimed at repositioning Nigeria for sustainable growth and national prosperity.

The NiDCOM boss further urged Nigerians in the diaspora to support national development through their expertise, investments, skills and global networks.

She reaffirmed NiDCOM’s commitment to engaging and celebrating outstanding Nigerians abroad whose accomplishments continue to enhance Nigeria’s image on the global stage.
