The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has concluded the cascading exercise for its 2026–2030 Strategic Plan, marking a significant step towards aligning the Agency’s long-term vision with the operational activities of its directorates.
The exercise followed the official launch of the Strategy 2026–2030 on March 16, 2026, and was designed to translate the Agency’s enterprise-wide strategic goals into actionable plans at the directorate level.
Built on the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) framework, the strategy is anchored on five strategic pillars and 12 strategic objectives aimed at strengthening meteorological service delivery, improving organizational performance, and advancing climate resilience across Nigeria.
According to NiMet, the cascading process was initiated to ensure that every directorate clearly understands its role in achieving the Agency’s strategic objectives and contributes effectively to the implementation of the plan.
The exercise focused on aligning directorate-specific priorities with the Agency’s overall strategic direction, mapping operational activities to strategic outcomes, establishing key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive accountability, and integrating strategic objectives into individual performance plans to promote ownership across the workforce.
To ensure broad participation, the exercise was conducted in four batches covering NiMet’s nine directorates and the Office of the Director General/Chief Executive Officer.
The first batch involved the Directorate of Weather Forecasting Services and the Directorate of Applied Meteorological Services. The second batch featured the Office of the Director General/CEO, the Directorate of Corporate Services, and the Directorate of Research and Training.
The third batch brought together the Directorate of Engineering and Technical Services with the Directorate of Human Resource Management and Administration, while the final batch included the Directorate of Finance and Accounts, the Directorate of Public Affairs and Customer Protection, and the Legal Services Directorate.
NiMet said the structured approach would strengthen the alignment between strategy and operations, improve institutional capacity, enhance service delivery and accountability, and ensure that every directorate contributes meaningfully to achieving the Agency’s vision of delivering world-class meteorological services in support of Nigeria’s national development.
