The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), says it has recovered and secured the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) and Flight Data Recorder (FDR) from a Bombardier Challenger CL-601 aircraft involved in a roadway landing incident in Delta State.
The aircraft, registered N989BC and operated by VMO Aero Limited, was en route from Lagos to Asaba on June 10, 2026, when it reportedly landed on and subsequently departed from a roadway near Asaba in Delta State.
Following notification of the occurrence, the NSIB activated its emergency response procedures and deployed an investigative Go Team to the site. The team has since commenced a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Bureau confirmed that the CVR and FDR have been retrieved and secured for detailed analysis, while investigators are also collecting operational, maintenance, and air traffic control records relevant to the flight.
Director General of the NSIB, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., said the agency responded immediately after being informed of the incident.
“The NSIB acted promptly following the occurrence on June 10, 2026. The immediate deployment of our investigative Go Team and the swift recovery of the Cockpit Voice Recorder and Flight Data Recorder are critical steps that will help establish the facts of this incident. We are relieved that there were no reported fatalities or serious injuries. Our commitment remains the advancement of aviation safety in Nigeria,” he stated.
The Bureau is working in coordination with relevant aviation and safety authorities in line with the Civil Aviation (Investigation of Air Accidents and Incidents) Regulations and ICAO Annex 13, a global framework governing aircraft accident investigations.
Investigators will also conduct interviews with relevant personnel and review additional technical evidence as part of the ongoing probe.
NSIB urged members of the public who may have witnessed the incident or possess photographs, videos, or CCTV footage to submit them via dg@nsib.gov.ng or official social media channels @nsibofficial.
It reiterated that the objective of the investigation is strictly to determine causes and contributing factors and to issue safety recommendations, and not to apportion blame or liability, adding also that further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
