India and the African Union have agreed to postpone the Fourth India–Africa Forum Summit (IAFS IV), initially scheduled to hold in New Delhi from May 28 to 31, 2026, following consultations over the evolving public health situation in parts of Africa.
In a joint press release issued on Thursday, both sides said the decision was reached after extensive discussions between the Government of India, the Chairperson of the African Union, and the African Union Commission.
The summit, which was expected to bring together African leaders and key stakeholders, was postponed to ensure full participation and engagement amid concerns over the emerging health situation on the continent.
According to the statement, India and the African Union exchanged views on the public health challenges and reaffirmed the need for stronger cooperation in enhancing Africa’s preparedness and response capacities.
India also reiterated its support for Africa-led health initiatives, particularly efforts coordinated through the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention and relevant national institutions.
The Indian government expressed solidarity with African countries and pledged readiness to contribute to ongoing response efforts aimed at addressing the health situation across the continent.
“Following these consultations, the two sides agreed that it would be advisable to convene the Fourth India–Africa Forum Summit at a later date,” the statement said.
It added that new dates for the summit and associated meetings would be announced after further mutual consultations.
Despite the postponement, India and Africa reaffirmed their longstanding partnership anchored on solidarity, mutual respect, South–South cooperation, and shared aspirations for peace, development, prosperity, and the well-being of their peoples.
