Nigeria has joined the rest of the world to mark the celebration of the International Museum Day 2021.
The global event which is marked every May 18th worldwide, is a cultural showpiece celebrated across the globe amongst museums and culture enthusiasts to interact, assess and highlight the challenges / prospects for the development of the museum and its vital role as an agent of peace in the service of community.
As approved by the International council of museums (ICOM), the theme for this year’s celebration is “The Future of Museums: Recover and Re-imagine”.
Disclosing this in a statement on Tuesday, the Head, Public Relations, National Council for Museums and Monuments, Dapo Sijuade, noted that Nigeria this year will be having a low-key celebration due to the Federal Government’s re-introduced phase 4 COVID-19 restrictions which limits the number of persons in public gatherings across the 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory.
“Nevertheless, the Commission wishes to assure Nigerians and all culture lovers that an appropriate date for a befitting celebration shall be communicated eventually, as soon as the restrictions are reviewed”, he stated.
He wished Nigerians a low but Happy Celebration!
