2018 World Cup Qualifier
Result: Algeria 1-1 Nigeria
Date: 10 November 2017
Venue: Stade Mohamed Hamlaoui
Nigeria, who have already qualified for the 2018 World Cup, ended their qualifying campaign with a 1-1 draw against Algeria on Friday evening.
Kelechi Iheanacho and Alex Iwobi were restored to the Super Eagles lineup after starting on the bench in the last qualifier.
For Algeria, they included a number of stars such as Riyad Mahrez, Yacine Brahimi and Islam Slimani.
The hosts looked lively in the early stages, with Slimani going close in the opening 10 minutes.
The first half proved to be a pretty dull affair as neither side looked threatening despite the attacking talent on display.
Nevertheless, the score remained goalless as the sides entered the halftime break.
The Super Eagles started the second half on a bright note, and they broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute thanks to a super long range strike from John Ogu.
Five minutes later, Algeria should have been level but Slimani squandered a glorious chance from inside the box.
The hosts continued to push for an equaliser as the half continued, while they also introduced Baghdad Bounedjah with 15 minutes remaining.
Algeria were eventually awarded a penalty on 88 minutes. Brahimi stepped up and converted the spot-kick to level matters.
However, neither side could add to the scoreline in the closing stages of the half as the encounter finished 1-1.
