The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Limited) has extended its petrol discount initiative at retail outlets nationwide until October 31, 2026, as part of efforts to cushion the impact of rising fuel prices on Nigerians.
The company says the extension follows increased global crude oil prices triggered by the ongoing Middle East conflict, which has contributed to rising domestic petrol prices and increased the cost of transportation and business operations.
NNPC Limited says the discount, initially introduced on October 1 to commemorate Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, aligns with the Federal Government’s commitment to providing relief to households and businesses. It, however, clarifies that the initiative does not amount to a return of petroleum subsidy or a reinstatement of a uniform national pump price.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Limited, Andy Odeh, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to reliable product supply, responsible customer service and collaboration with the government and other stakeholders to ease the burden of rising fuel costs on Nigerians.
The company urged the public to disregard claims suggesting that the discount signalled a restoration of fuel subsidy, stressing that the initiative applied only to NNPC Retail outlets and does not alter the market-based pricing framework for petroleum products.
