The National Sports Commission (NSC) has constituted a six-member Caretaker Committee to oversee the affairs of the Nigeria Judo Federation (NJF) following the dissolution of the federation’s board by the International Judo Federation (IJF).
The commission said the committee was constituted pursuant to Section 16 of the National Sports Commission Act, 2023, as a transitional administrative arrangement pending the conduct of fresh elections and inauguration of a duly elected board.
The committee is chaired by Sheriff Hammed, while Ekuta Catherine Ewa, Sule Musa, Bashir Musa Bassey and Oladipupo Idowu will serve as members. Amayo Ngozi is the Secretary.
According to the NSC, the committee is mandated to oversee the day-to-day administration of the federation and implement necessary reforms to place the NJF on a sound administrative footing.
Its responsibilities include amending the federation’s constitution to incorporate provisions required by the IJF, convening an Annual General Meeting to consider and approve the amended constitution, and organizing elections during the transitional period.
The committee is also expected to ensure a smooth transition to the duly elected board at the conclusion of the electoral process.
The NSC charged the committee to discharge its responsibilities with diligence, transparency and impartiality, while prioritizing the overall interest and development of judo in Nigeria.
It further directed the committee to work with relevant stakeholders to ensure effective administration and the continued development of judo throughout the transition.
The caretaker arrangement will remain in place until the electoral process is concluded and the newly elected board assumes office.
