The Federal Government is set to unveil the $1 billion Renewed Hope Social Protection Programme on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen social protection, reduce poverty and promote economic inclusion across Nigeria.

The programme, to be unveiled at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, is being implemented by the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is expected to officially unveil the programme, which the ministry said would mark a significant shift towards a more integrated, household-centred and results-driven approach to social protection.

According to the ministry, the initiative is designed to strengthen Nigeria’s social protection delivery architecture and expand interventions for poor and vulnerable households, with greater emphasis on sustainable improvements in the lives and livelihoods of beneficiaries.

A major component of the programme is the One Humanitarian One Poverty Response System (OHOPRS), an integrated national architecture designed to link humanitarian response, social protection, poverty reduction, economic inclusion and graduation around the household as the centre of intervention and measurement.

The strategic proposition of OHOPRS is “One System, From Vulnerability to Prosperity.”

The ministry said the system would support the articulation of its strategic priorities, institutional reforms, programmes, delivery mechanisms and implementation pathways for humanitarian affairs and poverty reduction.

The Federal Government will also launch an Emergency Cash Transfer initiative targeting 7.6 million vulnerable households across the country.

The initiative is expected to provide timely financial support to households facing socioeconomic vulnerabilities and shocks.

The event will also feature the launch of the Humanity First Magazine, described by the ministry as a strategic communication and knowledge platform that will showcase interventions, results, partnerships, human-impact stories and innovations across Nigeria’s humanitarian and poverty-reduction ecosystem.

The ministry said the programme would further strengthen collaboration between the Office of the First Lady and the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction to ensure that vulnerable households are protected, empowered and progressively linked to pathways towards prosperity.

It said the Renewed Hope Social Protection Programme represented a major step towards a more coordinated, responsive and results-oriented social protection system that places vulnerable Nigerians at the centre of national development efforts.
