The Federal Government of Nigeria and the Republic of Angola have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, with both countries agreeing to deepen cooperation in diplomacy, peace and security, trade, and the movement of people.
The commitment was made during a bilateral meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and Angola’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Téte António, on the sidelines of the ongoing African Union Executive Council Meeting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
According to a statement by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the two ministers discussed a wide range of issues aimed at enhancing collaboration between Nigeria and Angola.
The discussions focused on mutual support for the candidatures of both countries in international organizations, strengthening cooperation on peace and security across the African continent, and promoting exchange study visits to boost institutional collaboration.
Both ministers also reviewed preparations for the Extraordinary Session of the African Union Assembly scheduled to take place in Luanda, Angola, from August 29 to 30, 2026.
A key outcome of the meeting was the agreement to facilitate easier visa issuance for Nigerians travelling to Angola for business and tourism. The ministers stressed the need to simplify the movement of people between the two countries as part of broader efforts to enhance economic and diplomatic ties.
They further explored other areas of mutual interest aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation and advancing shared priorities within the African Union.
The meeting underscored the shared commitment of Nigeria and Angola to strengthening strategic partnerships and promoting African-led solutions to continental challenges.
