The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has intensified efforts to strengthen security enforcement, prosecution processes, and judicial coordination across the nation’s airports through a strategic engagement with key justice sector stakeholders.

The high-level forum, themed “Strengthening Arrest, Prosecution and Judicial Administration Within the Airport Environment,” brought together representatives of security agencies, legal practitioners, prosecutors, and aviation stakeholders to address critical issues relating to law enforcement and justice administration within airport facilities.

Representing the Managing Director of FAAN, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, the Director of Aviation Security Services, ACP Afegbai Albert Igbafe, said effective collaboration among security and judicial institutions remains essential to sustaining safety and operational integrity within Nigeria’s aviation sector.

He noted that airports occupy a strategic position in national security and economic development, stressing that offences committed within airport environments must be treated with seriousness because of their potential impact on passenger confidence and aviation safety.

According to ACP Igbafe, FAAN is committed to promoting a secure airport environment through stronger collaboration among Aviation Security personnel, the Nigeria Police Force, prosecutors, and other relevant agencies responsible for maintaining law and order within the aviation ecosystem.

He further emphasized the importance of improving enforcement mechanisms to ensure strict compliance with aviation regulations, safety standards, and security protocols across all airport facilities.

Also speaking at the engagement, FAAN’s Director of Legal Services, Bridget Gold, described the forum as a timely initiative aimed at addressing operational and legal challenges affecting airport administration and judicial processes.

She explained that the engagement was designed to enhance understanding of arrest procedures, prosecution processes, and judicial administration within airport environments, while also clarifying the responsibilities of various institutions involved in the administration of justice.

Gold added that sustained cooperation and improved coordination among stakeholders would significantly strengthen security management and regulatory compliance within Nigeria’s airports.

The engagement featured technical presentations and interactive sessions involving legal experts, prosecutors, security agencies, and other industry stakeholders, with discussions focused on improving arrest procedures, prosecution efficiency, and judicial coordination in the aviation sector.
