The Federal Government of Nigeria has extended its deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the Government and people of the Democratic Republic of Congo over the tragic loss of more than 130 lives and over 500 infected following the recent outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease.
Nigeria expressed profound sadness at the devastating impact of the outbreak on affected families and communities, and stands in solidarity with the Democratic Republic of Congo during this difficult period of grief and public health emergency.
Nigeria commended the efforts of health authorities, frontline medical personnel, humanitarian workers, and international partners who are working tirelessly to contain the spread of the disease and provide care for those affected.
The Spokesperson in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa who made this known in a statement on Friday, reaffirmed Nigeria’s support for regional and international cooperation to combat infectious diseases and strengthen Africa’s public health response mechanisms.
The Ministry further noted that the recurring outbreaks of Ebola underscore the urgent need for sustained investment in healthcare infrastructure, disease surveillance, research, and emergency preparedness across the continent.
“Nigeria prays for the peaceful repose of the departed, a speedy recovery for those infected, and strength and comfort for bereaved families”, the statement concluded.
