The African Aviation and Aerospace University has reinforced its growing role in aviation capacity development after hosting a high-level induction ceremony and professional workshop in partnership with the Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria.
The event, held at the Festus Keyamo Auditorium on the university’s permanent site in Abuja, focused on strengthening professional standards and promoting environmentally responsible growth within Nigeria’s aviation industry.
With the theme; “Sustainable Aviation Development and the Role of Professional Certification,” the gathering attracted senior figures from the transport and aviation sectors, including the Rector of Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, Dr. Danjuma Ismaila Adamu, who delivered the keynote presentation.
Representatives of CIoTA leadership, led by Prince Segun Obayendo through Mazi Philip Okoronkwo, stressed the importance of professional certification in building a more efficient and globally competitive transport system.
In his remarks, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of AAAU, Dr. Mustapha Sheikh Abdullahi, welcomed participants and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to producing highly skilled professionals capable of meeting the evolving demands of the aviation and aerospace industries.
Dr. Adamu, in his keynote speech, highlighted continuous training, regulatory compliance, innovation, and sustainability as essential pillars for long-term progress in aviation.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the conferment of an Honorary Fellowship of CIoTA on Dr. Abdullahi, alongside the formal induction of new institute members.
The programme also featured goodwill messages, awards presentations, an interactive panel discussion, and a closing vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Dorcas Ibinaye.
Participants ended the event with renewed calls for stronger collaboration, improved standards, and practical reforms aimed at advancing sustainable aviation and transport systems across Nigeria and the wider Africa.
