The Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu has said that the ongoing National Council on Communication Technology, NCCT will chart the way forward for information and Communications Technology, ICT in the country.
Barrister Shittu stated this in Katsina when he led the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Communications, the State Commissioners in charge of ICT, Heads of agencies under the ministry, and other participants on a courtesy call to the Executive Governor of Katsina State, Alhaji Bello Masari.
The Minister noted that with the current dwindling crude oil price, ICT would be given a pride of place to be the next revenue earner.
“The main aim of the ongoing National Council on Communications Technology (NCCT) is to examine where we are coming from and then know where we are going”, the minister said.
He commended Governor Masari on the giant strides he has made so far in ICT development in the state and also expressed appreciation to him for accepting to host the conference which he considered as a patriotic duty.
In his remarks, the Governor, while appreciating the Minister for choosing the State for the conference, drew his attention to the need to look at the activities of Service Providers and the way Social Media is being used to damage the image of individuals, families and leaders in the country, calling for adequate measures to check the abuses.
The NCCT is a national body for agencies and officials in the communications sector who meet yearly to deliberate on issues concerning ICT in Nigeria and to chart the way forward for the benefit of Nigerians.
