Nigeria’s Ambassador-Designate to the Republic of Mali, Ambassador Geoffrey Ijomah David Chima, has presented copies of his Letters of Credence to Mali’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdoulaye Diop, as part of the diplomatic process preceding the formal assumption of his duties.
The presentation took place on Thursday, August 6, 2026, in Bamako, where both officials also held bilateral talks focused on deepening cooperation between Nigeria and Mali in areas of mutual interest.
During the meeting, the two sides reaffirmed the importance of strengthening diplomatic consultation mechanisms to enhance mutually beneficial South-South cooperation. They also expressed commitment to expanding collaboration in key sectors that would further consolidate relations between both countries.
Discussions also centred on the evolving geopolitical situation in the West African sub-region, with particular attention to the growing security challenges posed by terrorism. Both parties stressed the need for greater regional solidarity, constructive political dialogue and stronger mutual trust among neighbouring states to effectively address shared security concerns.
The engagement underscored the commitment of Nigeria and Mali to sustaining diplomatic relations and promoting closer cooperation in tackling common regional and developmental challenges.
