The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), Comrade Philip Shaibu, has called for greater unity and cooperation among stakeholders in Nigeria’s football sector to ensure sustainable growth and progress in the game.

Shaibu made the appeal during a Night of Tribute held in honour of late Nigerian football legend, Henry Onyemanze Nwosu (MON), at Saint Finbarr’s College, Akoka, Lagos.

The NIS Director General attended the event alongside members of the Student Union Government (SUG) and management staff of the Institute, demonstrating the organisation’s commitment to celebrating sporting heroes and promoting leadership ideals among young Nigerians.

Speaking at the ceremony, the former Deputy Governor of Edo State stressed the need for harmony among football administrators, coaches, players, and other stakeholders, noting that collaboration remains essential to repositioning Nigerian football for greater success.

He urged members of the football community to put aside differences and work collectively towards advancing the sport and nurturing future generations of athletes.

Shaibu also extended the condolences of the National Institute for Sports to the family, friends, and associates of the late Henry Nwosu, describing him as a patriotic sportsman whose contributions to Nigerian football left an enduring legacy.

According to him, Nwosu distinguished himself as an outstanding ambassador of the game, mentor, and role model whose dedication and achievements inspired many within the sporting community.

The NIS boss further encouraged young athletes and sports administrators to emulate the discipline, commitment, and leadership qualities that characterised the late football icon’s career.

The tribute event attracted former footballers, coaches, sports administrators, family members, and admirers who gathered to celebrate the life and accomplishments of Henry Nwosu, paying glowing tributes to his impact on Nigerian football and the lives he touched throughout his career.
