The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Lanre Issa-Onilu, has urged Nigerians to uphold faith in God and demonstrate patriotism to the country as Muslims across the nation celebrate Eid al-Adha.
Issa-Onilu said the Eid celebration offers an opportunity for citizens to recommit themselves to the ideals of peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and collective responsibility needed for national development.
In a statement issued over the weekend, the NOA boss noted that the lessons of Eid-al-Adha remain relevant to Nigeria’s current realities, stressing that sacrifice, discipline, and compassion are essential virtues required to promote national growth and stability.
He encouraged Muslims to emulate the devotion and obedience of Prophet Ibrahim by extending kindness, charity, and support to the less privileged during the festive period.
The NOA Director-General also called on Nigerians to avoid actions capable of threatening public peace and unity, urging citizens to embrace dialogue, tolerance, and responsible conduct before, during, and after the celebrations.
While acknowledging ongoing government efforts to tackle insecurity, he appealed to community leaders, religious organisations, and youth groups to support initiatives aimed at promoting national values, civic responsibility, and social harmony.
According to him, meaningful national development can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace, collective responsibility, and shared commitment to the progress of the country.
Issa-Onilu further reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to sustained public enlightenment campaigns focused on patriotism, unity, and active citizen participation in nation-building.
He also wished Muslims a peaceful and rewarding Eid al-Adha celebration, expressing optimism that the spirit of sacrifice and togetherness associated with the season would inspire Nigerians to work collectively towards a more prosperous nation.
