The Nigerian Navy has handed over five individuals suspected to be linked to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the Eastern Security Network (ESN), and related criminal activities to the Department of State Services (DSS) in Anambra State for further investigation.
The suspects were arrested by personnel of Naval Outpost ONITSHA operating under the Forward Operating Base AMIYI following credible intelligence reports connecting them to alleged criminal operations in Ogbaru Local Government Area of the state.
According to preliminary investigations, one of the suspects was identified as a suspected coordinator of the group’s activities within the affected communities, while the others were allegedly associated with the network. Security findings also revealed locations believed to have been used for meetings and recruitment purposes.
The Navy stated that the suspects were transferred to the DSS in line with existing inter-agency cooperation frameworks and relevant security procedures for further necessary action.
The development highlights the Nigerian Navy’s sustained support for internal security operations and ongoing collaborative efforts to tackle violent extremism, criminality, and other threats to national security.
The Service reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with other security and intelligence agencies to maintain peace, protect lives and property, and enhance stability across the country.
