Nigeria and Jamaica have expressed commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade and investment, health, culture, technology, tourism and education.

The commitment was made as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Jamaica, Dr. Jane Bassey Adams, presented her Letters of Credence to Jamaica’s Governor-General, Sir Patrick Linton Allen, at King’s House in Kingston on September 10, 2026.

Adams conveyed the greetings and best wishes of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the Governor-General, as well as the government and people of Jamaica.

The High Commissioner described the ceremony as a significant milestone in Nigeria-Jamaica relations, noting the enduring historical bonds, shared heritage and cultural and ancestral connections between the two countries.

She stressed the need to translate these longstanding ties into robust and mutually beneficial partnerships that would produce tangible economic and developmental outcomes.

Adams said her mission would be guided by the vision of a “New Dawn” in Nigeria-Jamaica relations, with emphasis on reinvigorating bilateral engagement and identifying new opportunities for cooperation.

She also pledged to work closely with the Jamaican authorities and other stakeholders to strengthen existing partnerships and develop new areas of collaboration.

Nigeria and Jamaica have maintained longstanding relations, with cooperation spanning tourism, education, sports and cultural exchanges.

The two countries also collaborate at multilateral platforms, particularly the Commonwealth of Nations and the United Nations, where they advance shared interests on issues including international peace and security and sustainable development.

The Federal Government, according to the statement signed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Oluwafemi Adeniyi, reaffirmed its commitment to working with Jamaica to ensure that the longstanding fraternal ties between both countries deliver meaningful and mutually beneficial outcomes.
