The Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Hon. Festus Keyamo, SAN, CON, has disclosed that Nigeria has achieved 75% compliance with the Cape Town Convention, positioning the nation’s aviation ecosystem as a leading model in Africa.

The Minister made this known while receiving the management team of British Airways, led by Colm Lacy, during a courtesy visit to his office, a statement by the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Chindaya Ahmadu Audu Adamu noted.

Hon. Keyamo expressed optimism about strengthening collaboration between Nigeria and British Airways, particularly in the areas of technical maintenance and human capacity development, noting that such partnerships are critical to the continued growth and modernization of the aviation sector.

Earlier, the British Airways delegation commended the Honourable Minister for fostering peace, stability, and transformative reforms within Nigeria’s aviation industry. They also applauded his efforts in maintaining a cordial and productive relationship with industry stakeholders.

The visit also provided an opportunity for the delegation to formally brief the Minister on their ongoing initiatives, including preparations for the airline’s upcoming 90th anniversary celebration.

Speaking during the visit, Colm Lacy described the milestone as “an exciting journey of 90 years of first-class flight service.”

Other members of the British Airways delegation included Neil Chernoff, Alian Campbell, Morgan Birger, and Adetutu Otuyalo.

Also present at the meeting were the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Alhaji Mahmud Adam Kambari; the Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Chris Najomo; the Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Engr. Farouk Ahmed; and the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the African Aviation and Aerospace University (AAAU), Dr. Mustapha Sheikh, among other senior officials.
