Amid a wave of patriotic pride and poignant reflection, the Vietnamese Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Mr. Bui Quoc Hung, led a moving tribute to mark the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and the reunification of Vietnam, a moment etched in history on April 30, 1975.
Speaking to a cluster of journalists today in Abuja, Ambassador Hung hailed the landmark victory as a testament to the unbreakable spirit and unwavering resolve of the Vietnamese people. “April 30th is not just a date; it is a symbol of the Vietnamese people’s determination to reclaim their unity and sovereignty as a nation that no force could ever divide,” he declared.
Quoting the revered words of Vietnam’s founding father, President Ho Chi Minh, he reminded the world: “Vietnam is one. The Vietnamese people are one.” The Ambassador urged the global community to learn from Vietnam’s hard-won peace and embrace unity over division.
“For three decades, our people endured immeasurable suffering and loss. Yet, through it all, they held onto a singular truth — that nothing is more precious than independence and freedom,” he said, expressing a nation that rose from the ashes of war to become a symbol of resilience.
Looking toward the future, Ambassador Hung highlighted the growing ties between Vietnam and Nigeria, acknowledging the strides made in trade and investment. However, he emphasized the need for greater collaboration. “Our trade numbers are increasing, but they are still far from reflecting the true potential of our two nations. We must do more together.”
He expressed strong optimism for the future of Vietnam and its role on the global stage, underscoring the importance of deepening bilateral relations with Nigeria and fostering partnerships that go beyond commerce to include cultural exchange, peace building, and sustainable development.
