The United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has accepted an invitation from Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to visit Nigeria this year, according to a statement from the Nigerian Presidency.
The invitation was extended on Wednesday during a bilateral meeting between the two leaders on the sidelines of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2025, an event focused on global sustainable development and climate action.
A statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, confirmed the development, emphasizing the strengthening of economic ties between both nations.
President Tinubu, who arrived in Abu Dhabi on Sunday as a guest of the UAE President, delivered Nigeria’s position on climate action and other global challenges. During their meeting, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan expressed the UAE’s commitment to enhancing economic cooperation with Nigeria.
The two leaders also discussed attracting investments into Nigeria, with Tinubu highlighting the positive impact of his administration’s economic reforms. He stated that these reforms have stabilized and grown the economy, attracting foreign investors and multinational corporations, particularly in the oil and gas sector.
“Our economic reforms are yielding results, and international investors are beginning to regain confidence in Nigeria,” Tinubu said.
President Tinubu thanked the UAE President for the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation since their arrival. The Nigerian leader was accompanied by Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Nuhu Ribadu, National Security Adviser.
On the UAE side, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was joined by key government officials, including: Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs; Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan – Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Special Affairs and H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan
Other UAE officials at the meeting included Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation; Dr Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology; and Salem Saeed Al Shamsi, UAE Ambassador to Nigeria.
The upcoming visit by Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Nigeria is expected to further strengthen diplomatic and economic relations between the two nations.
