Dust Haze with Horizontal Visibility Expected Thursday Through Saturday—NiMet Warns

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), through its Central Forecast Office (CFO), has issued a three-day weather outlook.

The forecast outlook which starts from Thursday December 28, through Saturday December 30, 2023, shows moderate dust haze with horizontal visibility across the country. 

It gave a breakdown of the weather forecast as follows:

Day 1 (Thursday 28th): Moderate Dust Haze with horizontal visibility of 2 – 5 km and localized visibility of less than or equal to 1000m is expected over the Northern region. 

Moderate Dust Haze with horizontal visibility of 2 – 5 km is expected over the North Central region throughout the forecast period. Moderate Dust Haze with horizontal visibility of 2 – 5 km is expected over the Inland cities of the South and Coastal cities during the forecast period.

Day 2 (Friday 29th): Moderate Dust Haze with horizontal visibility of 2–5km and localized visibility of less than or equal to 1000m is expected over the North and North Central region throughout the forecast period. 

Moderate Dust Haze with horizontal visibility of 2 – 5km is expected over the Inland cities of the South and Coastal cities during the forecast period.

Day 3 (Saturday 30th): Moderate Dust Haze with horizontal visibility of 2–5km and localized visibility of less than or equal to 1000m is expected over the North and North Central region throughout the forecast period. 

Moderate Dust Haze with horizontal visibility of 2 – 5km is expected over the Inland cities of the South during the forecast period. Few clouds in hazy atmosphere is expected over the Coastal cities during the forecast period.

While issuing an advisory following the potential impact of the weather, NiMet explained that dust particles are in suspension, and urged the public to take necessary precautions.

It also warned people with Asthma and other respiratory issues to be cautious of the present weather situation, and advised Airline operators to get updated weather reports from NiMet for effective planning in their operations.
