Abakaliki: Ebonyi State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Daniel Umezurike has said that the state has not recorded any case of Coronavirus (COVID-19).

He stated this on Thursday in Abakaliki during an interview with Journalists at Pa Ngele Oruta township Stadium—the centre for the quarantine returnees who violated government directive on border closure.

The Commissioner who said 46 cases have been received and tested but all proved negative, attributed the no-case result to the proactive precautionary measures taken by the Ebonyi state government to prevent the spread of the dreaded virus to the state, and commended governor David Umahi for his initiatives in combating the disease.

“We have received about 46 numbers today, but one important thing is that we have continued to have negative results in all those we have tested in Ebonyi state.

“As it stands now, Ebonyi state does not have any case of coronavirus, and we have gone extra miles to check some of these returnees, especially from high risk areas, like Lagos, where we had seventeen of them yesterday. They actually arrived on Sunday, we monitored them for three days, and yesterday, the result was collected randomly for four of them out of 17,and they all came out negative.

“We also applied wisdom in selection. We categorised them in people living in different areas in Lagos, and also took the person that has the highest temperature among them even though they were normal, and they didn’t have the case definition but we still subjected them to tests, and they all came out negative.

“So far so good. Ebonyi state does not have any cases of COVID-19”, he stated.

Meanwhile, about 200 returnees from less risk states were discharged by governor Umahi, with their transport fairs paid for them to their various homes, after they had been closely monitored and subjected to tests by the medical team.
