The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) has called for increased public awareness and strict compliance with official Ebola prevention measures to protect lives, sustain business operations and safeguard economic stability.
The Director-General of ACCI, Mr Agabaidu Jideani, made the call in a public advisory on Ebola prevention issued on Thursday, October 22, 2026, urging businesses, workers and residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to remain vigilant and adhere to established public health guidelines.
Jideani stressed that disease outbreaks could have far-reaching consequences beyond the health sector, disrupting commercial activities, trade, workforce productivity, supply chains and livelihoods.
He noted that any public health crisis capable of interrupting economic activities could adversely affect the wider economy, underscoring the need for preventive action and public cooperation.
The ACCI director-general advised members of the public to avoid direct contact with the blood and body fluids of suspected or confirmed Ebola cases, maintain regular handwashing with soap and water or use alcohol-based hand sanitisers.
He also cautioned against handling bats, monkeys and other potentially infected wild animals, urging residents to observe recommended hygiene practices and remain alert to possible symptoms of the disease.
Jideani further advised anyone who suspects an Ebola infection to seek guidance from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) through its official channels before visiting a health facility.
According to him, following the appropriate reporting and referral procedures would help ensure that suspected cases are managed safely and reduce the risk of further transmission.
He also urged ACCI staff to remain cautious, maintain proper hygiene and strictly comply with public health guidelines issued by relevant authorities to protect employees, business visitors and the wider Chamber community.
The Chamber emphasized that protecting public health was a shared responsibility requiring accurate information, responsible communication and coordinated action among individuals, businesses and government agencies.
It encouraged businesses to promote awareness among their employees, strengthen workplace hygiene practices and rely on credible official sources for information on Ebola prevention.
Reaffirming its commitment to a safe and resilient business environment in the FCT, ACCI urged employers, workers, residents and community leaders to take preventive measures seriously and avoid spreading unverified information.
The Chamber noted that collective adherence to public health guidelines was essential to protecting lives, preserving livelihoods and preventing avoidable disruptions to business activities.
