Abakaliki: Police in Ebonyi state has attributed the low crime rate recorded in the state,to the security friendly disposition of the state governor, Engr. David Umahi,whom they said have sufficiently assisted the police.
The Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi state command, Mr Awosola Awotinde, stated this in Abakaliki,during the visit of the Armed Forces command and staff college, Jaji,in the course of their study tour to the state titled “Assessing the states and local governments efforts toward enhancing national security”.
The team which had earlier visited some local government areas and other security outfits in the state, like the DSS,the military and other flash points,considered relevant to their studies,was led by Brig.Gen.Victor Ebhaleme,the Director,Department of Joint Studies, Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji.
Addressing the team on security matters, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Awotinde, who gave comparative analysis of crime rate in the state, with cases of murder toping the chart in 2019, however described Ebonyi state as the most peaceful state,compared to other states in the South East.
Mr Awotinde who also attributed the success of the command to the culture of community policing, the adaptation and full implementation of Puff Adder launched by the Inspector General of police nationwide, and the Inter Agency Relationship of the command with other security operatives in the state, challenged the student of Armed Forces Command to always initiate and nurture sincere synergy with other security agencies so as to tackle emerging security challenges in the country.
According to him, “As strategic commanders in your chosen fields,I challenge you all to initiate and nurture sincere synergy with other security agencies, so as to be able to tackle emerging security challenges. Unnecessary rivalry will cause disarray in our camp, and that will be to the advantage of our common enemy.
“As you undertake this visit in your course of study to have a better understanding of our great country, please be reminded of the fact that your honest contribution wherever you find yourself will make the country a better place for all of us to be proud of”.
Earlier,in his introductory remarks,the leader of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College,Jaji, Brig.Gen.Victor Ebhaleme, had explained that the team were in Ebonyi state as part of their study tour, aimed at assessing the efforts of state and local governments, in enhancing national security, describing their visit as a research work.
“We are sure that by visiting your command, your office will be able to throw more light on those aspects of national security in the state and local governments. It is a research work,the students are not expected to take everything you tell them. Perhaps,they will also go on fact finding,interact with local communities and also conduct interviews,” he said.
At the end of the research work,they will be expected to make a presentation to the college community. We expect to receive delegates from states to witness the presentation. We shall try as much as possible to be objective in our report,” he assured.
The team were conducted round the state by the Commissioner for Solid minerals,Comrade Jonah Egba, and Special Assistant(SA) to the governor on Solid minerals,Hon. Edwin Onwe.
