Sacrifice, an act of giving up something valued for the sake of something else regarded as more important or worthy.
This has been the story of Nigerian soldiers who have abandoned family and loved ones to defend the country against external and internal aggression.
Two weeks ago, the Multinational Task Force headed by Major General Lucky Irabor, who is the Force Commander, flagged off Operation Amni Fakat in Douoma which is aimed at flushing out Boko Haram terrorists from its last stronghold in the heart of the Lake Chad Basin.
It was during the course of the operation that troops from Nigeria, Cameroon and Chad, which made up the Multinational Task Force, sustained various degrees of injuries while engaging terrorists who had been causing mayhem on that part of Africa.
Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Gabriel Olonisakin while visiting the injured soldiers at the Renaissance Hospital in N’Djamena, acknowledged and expressed appreciation of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) for the sacrifices of the wounded soldiers and assured that every effort will be made to ensure their speedy recovery.
Olonisakin commended the troops for their courage and doggedness in fighting alongside Nigerian and Nigerien troops, in a Sub regional effort to rid the Lake Chad Basin of violent extremism and terrorism.
The Nigerian CDS backed up his words with action by donating medicine and clothings towards the up keep of the wounded troops.
This gesture is to keep the morale of the troops high and to also let them know that their sacrifices towards keeping their fatherland and Africa peaceful does not go unnoticed as they are the true heroes of African peace.
General Olonisakin was received at the Chadian Air Force Base in N’Djamena by the Force Commander Multinational Joint Task Force, Major General Lucky Irabor, the Representative of the Chadian Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier General N’guinambaye Bardé Michel and other Senior Officers.
