Abuja-It was an exciting moment at the second edition of the quarterly Security and Response Agencies route march exercise which held nationwide.
The exercise which had the primary aim to eradicate the inter-agency rivalry among the security agencies, is a well thought out activity which has a long term goal of enhancing espirit de corps and togetherness where the issue of clashes among the agencies will be a forgotten history in the service.
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen AG Olonisakin, while kickstarting the exercise in the early hours of Saturday, said that due to the lack of cohesion among the security and other response agencies, he dimmed it necessary that an exercise like the route march be organized quarterly in order to bring all the agencies together.
The CDS who was represented by the Chief of Defence Training and Operations, Maj. Gen. Ahmed Mohammed, expressed excitement at the turn out of security personnel as compared to the previous edition.
“We expect that with each passing day that we gather together, we come out in larger numbers. As at earlier on said, the whole essence is to make us come together as a team”, he said.
At the end of the exercise, the Director Defence Information (DDI), Maj. Gen. John Enenche, while addressing newsmen, said the march was a huge success.
He said, “while we were at the route march there, you can see the soldiers talking to the road safety and they were gisting and laughing, and it is spread across board like that, even to the fire service.
“It is also to send a message to the general public who sometimes capitalize on the misunderstandings among the security agencies that there is no inter service rivalry between us”.
He further said that it is really sad that some security agents do not fully understand what espirit de corps is all about particularly at the lower cadre as there is a very strong cohesion and understanding at the top level.
