The Federal Government has dismissed rumours of harmful vaccination in parts of Southeast, describing it as malicious, unpatriotic and misleading.
A statement signed by the Head, Public Relations Unit, National Primary Health Care Development Agency, NPHCDA, Saadu Salahu, for the Executive Director, insisted that there is no such vaccination in any part of the country that is harmful to any child in Nigeria.
The Statement reassured parents, guardians and caregivers of globally confirmed safety, potency and effectiveness of all antigens in the National Immunization Schedule against vaccines preventable diseases in the country.
It stressed that vaccination in the country remains free in all public health institutions.
“It must be reemphasized that the Federal Government’s annual budgetary allocation, release and cash-backing of huge resources for the provision of safe and potent vaccines is a practical manifestation of its commitment to the safety, growth and survival of Nigerian child”, it said.
It appealed to those peddling the rumour to desist from it and turn a new leaf in support of their country.
It also noted that as the nation prepares for another round of a National Measles Campaign, beginning in the North West from the 26th of October, 2017, it is imperative that government’s efforts are supported at all levels in order to protect the Nigerian child against vaccine-preventable disease.
