As Solar Expert calls for Solar Energy Domestication in Nigeria

Abuja: The Ministry of Youths and Sports has expressed readiness to support Institutions and individuals focused on empowering the Youths through skills acquisition trainings.
The Director, Department of Enterprise Development and Promotion, Luka Jonathan made this remark at the weekend, during the 1st Abuja graduation ceremony of Solar Affairs Institute Trainees.
The trainees were made up of Nigerian Youth Service Corps members and other young citizens who are non NYSC members.
The director who was represented by Adamu Usman Kaina said “In the world over, government has ceased to be the sole employer of labour because Government cannot offer employment to the teeming graduating youths who are coming out of our various institutions. That is why government is only ready and committed to supporting institutions like Solar Affairs, so that our youths could be engaged and also become employers of labour”.
“The Ministry of Youths and Sports is always ready partner and support efforts such as this. Nigerian youths should not focus on getting white collar jobs but also look out for organizations such as this one, who commit and offer training that can help them become engaged as well be gainfully offering employment to other youths”, he said.
On her part, the Representative of the FCT NYSC director, at the event, Mrs Adeola Afolanya charged the youths to take advantage of the training they have received to contribute positively to nation building.
She also noted that “the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurial Department of the NYSC tries to support corps members so they can be self reliant.
Meanwhile, a Solar Energy expert/ CEO of Solar Affairs, Engr. Francis Oludemi called for the domestication of the Solar Energy System in Nigeria to solve the perennial electricity challenge in the country.
Engr Oludemi, insisted that domesticating Solar Energy System in the country, will crash the prices of Solar wares, making it accessible to every household.
He further noted that investing in Solar Power alternative will not only solve the perennial power problem in the country, but also create jobs and improve the standard of living of the Nigerians.
He said “for us to move Nigeria from where it is, the truth is that we must first face power. The only way to improve on power at the moment is to make use of the abundance of natural resource that God has given us; which is the sun. It is saddening that our government is not looking at it in the angle they should.
As their project, the graduating Students designed and constructed a Solar Powered Mobile Barbing Kit, capable of powering a barber shop with 4clippers, 2 fans, a TV and lighting points.
The Graduands who spoke with The Sight News correspondent attested to the impact that the training has made in their lives.
One of the trainees, Alaribe Kinsman Nkemjika said “I actually do not have a background in engineering but passion for power made me venture into this. I have benefited a lot and I’m going to use my knowledge to affect many.
Another Trainee, Olaniye Destiny said “I am a professional barber. What I have learnt here I will use to produce a solar barbing kit for my shop; instead of polluting the air with generator fumes and spending money on fuel. So, that will also save me money”.
