Following the reversion of the Air Force Girls Comprehensive School Jos back to a military school for girls, the Air Force Girls Alumni Association of Nigeria (AFGAAN) has applauded the Chief of Air Staff (CAS) for the noble act.
The school which was demilitarized in the year 2002, aimed at ensuring a board based academic curriculum which will guide the girls towards academic, technical and vocational pursuit as well as provide a more democratic and participatory atmosphere to both the parents and the wider society but that aim was not fully achieved hence the need to revert to the initial purpose.
Marking the 10th year Anniversary of the alumni association and 30 years of the establishment of the School, the Association expressed utmost gratitude to the CAS for giving the girl child an equal opportunity to succeed in this present time.
In his remark, the CAS who was represented by the Comd 451 NAF Stn Jos, commended the AFGAAN for remaining a good ambassador not only to the school but to the Nigerian Air Force and Nigeria as a whole.
He promised to continue to support girl child education in the country and to ensure that they are equipped to compete favorably with their male counterparts.
The Air force Girls’ Comprehensive military school with an initial intake of eight students (Junior Air Women), had staff of both military and civilian personnel whose aim then was to produce a disciplined group of girls who would be able to face other challenges of life (including combat) than just being house wives.
