The Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Hon. Hulayat Motunrayo Omidiran, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government for inaugurating the Technical Board of the Nigeria Anti-Doping Centre (NADC), describing the development as a major milestone in strengthening integrity, transparency and global competitiveness in Nigerian sports.
In a statement issued on Friday, Omidiran said the inauguration of the board in Abuja, following the enactment of the National Anti-Doping Act, 2025, underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting the credibility of Nigerian sports and aligning the country with international standards under the World Anti-Doping Code.
The FCC chairman, who also serves as Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, described the establishment of the Centre as a strategic institutional reform that supports the Renewed Hope Agenda by promoting accountability, fairness and excellence in the nation’s sports sector.
She said the Technical Board would play a crucial role in safeguarding clean athletes, ensuring fair competition and restoring confidence in Nigeria’s sporting system both at home and abroad.
“The inauguration of the Nigeria Anti-Doping Centre Technical Board is a landmark achievement for Nigerian sports. It reflects the Federal Government’s determination to protect clean athletes, uphold integrity in competition and restore greater confidence in Nigeria’s sporting system both nationally and internationally,” she said.
Omidiran noted that sports remain a vital instrument for national unity, youth development and economic growth, stressing that maintaining the integrity of competitions is essential to sustaining public trust and enhancing Nigeria’s reputation in the global sporting community.
She reaffirmed the Federal Character Commission’s support for initiatives aimed at strengthening public institutions, promoting transparency and advancing national development, expressing confidence that the Board would foster a culture of integrity and clean competition in Nigerian sports.
The former lawmaker also commended the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, the National Assembly, the National Sports Commission and other stakeholders for their collaborative efforts in establishing the statutory anti-doping institution.
Congratulating the chairman and members of the Technical Board on their appointments, Omidiran urged them to carry out their responsibilities with professionalism, independence and fairness, noting that their success would not only protect the future of Nigerian athletes but also enhance the country’s standing in the global sporting community.
