The Nigerian Navy has handed over 125 bags of seized foreign parboiled rice to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) following a successful anti-smuggling operation carried out by personnel of Naval Base Epe in Lagos State.

The seized items were formally transferred to officials of the Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘A’ Ikeja, led by Superintendent of Customs Chinedu Eboh, during a handover ceremony held at Naval Base Epe on 5 May 2026.

According to the Navy, the operation was conducted following credible intelligence received on 29 April 2026 at about 0300 hours. Acting on the information, personnel of Naval Base Epe intercepted a Peugeot J5 van with registration number EKY-168YC loaded with 125 bags of 50kg foreign parboiled rice believed to have been smuggled into Lagos State through illegal border routes.

In accordance with existing regulations and inter-agency operational procedures, the confiscated items were subsequently handed over to the Nigeria Customs Service for further investigation and necessary enforcement action.

The handover was carried out on behalf of the Commander, Naval Base Epe, Captain Levi Deyin, by the Acting Executive Officer, Lieutenant Commander Elvis Egbe.

The Nigerian Navy said the successful operation highlights its sustained commitment to supporting national anti-smuggling efforts, safeguarding the economy, and enhancing internal security through strong collaboration with relevant security and enforcement agencies.

The Navy also reaffirmed its determination to intensify operations against smuggling and other illegal activities within Nigeria’s maritime and coastal environment.
