The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Benin Sub-Region, has received critical 330kV and 132kV equipment spares from its Project Monitoring Unit (PMU), Abuja, to strengthen maintenance operations and improve transmission network reliability.
The consignment was delivered on Monday, November 2, 2026, and comprises 330kV and 132kV tripping coils, rapid pressure relays, current transformer (CT) ratio clamps, gantry structures and porcelain insulators.
TCN Management disclosed that the equipment had been successfully offloaded and secured in the sub-region’s store, where they are readily available for deployment whenever the need arises.
The delivery is expected to enhance the sub-region’s capacity to undertake routine and emergency maintenance activities promptly, reducing delays in replacing faulty components and restoring affected transmission facilities.
The availability of the spare equipment will also help minimize downtime, improve the reliability of the transmission network and strengthen the region’s ability to respond to operational challenges.
Furthermore, the intervention is expected to support more efficient transmission of bulk electricity to the load centres of distribution companies serviced by the Benin Sub-Region.
The development underscores the importance of adequate maintenance materials in sustaining transmission infrastructure and ensuring the efficient movement of electricity from generation stations to distribution networks.
TCN said the equipment would be deployed as required to support maintenance activities and improve the operational efficiency of the transmission network.
