The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, under the leadership of its President-General, Senator Azuta Mbata, has fixed  Saturday November 7 2026, for the conduct of the FCT Abuja Chapter election.

The decision followed a three-day consultative engagement with Ohanaeze Ndigbo leaders and other prominent Igbo stakeholders in the Federal Capital Territory, aimed at building consensus and ensuring a peaceful, inclusive and credible electoral process, a statement by Dr. Ezechi Chukwu, Global Publicity Secretary noted.

The consultations involved the Ohanaeze leadership in the FCT, Ndi Ndu, the Elders Council led by Chief S.N. Okeke, during a meeting held at the residence of Chief Ben Obi, as well as State Chairmen and other critical stakeholders within the Igbo community in Abuja.

To oversee the electoral process, a committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of Chief Ejiofor Onyia, a former Vice President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide. His Excellency, Ambassador Eddy Onuoha, who has also served in various capacities within the organisation’s former National Executive Committee, is the Co-Chairman, while His Excellency, Emeka Sibeudu, the Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, serves as Secretary of the Election Committee.

Other members representing the Ohanaeze Global Executive Council (GEC) are Dr. Ezechi Chukwu, Global Publicity Secretary; Charles Nkata, Esq., Global Financial Secretary; and Chizoba Iheka, Global Deputy Legal Adviser.

The other members representing various groups and interests in the FCT include Odozi Nwodozi, Henshaw Ogubike, Esq., Prof. Charles Nwekeaku, Mrs. Ufere Chinyere, Chief Emeka Mbagha and Mr. Henry Ugwu.

Speaking during the consultations, the Committee Chairman, Chief Ejiofor Onyia, assured stakeholders that the election would be conducted in strict compliance with the reviewed Constitution of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide. He emphasised the importance of fairness, transparency, inclusiveness and respect for the established constitutional provisions.

In his remarks, the Secretary-General, His Excellency Emeka Sibeudu, conveyed the President-General’s appeal to all Igbo sons and daughters in the FCT to remain compliant, collaborative and law-abiding throughout the electoral process. He stressed that collective responsibility and mutual understanding were essential to ensuring a peaceful exercise in the overall interest of unity and progress among Ndi Igbo in Abuja.

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide therefore called on all relevant stakeholders, eligible members and the wider Igbo community in the FCT to support the process and cooperate with the Election Committee towards a successful exercise.

The organisation remains committed to strengthening its structures, promoting unity and ensuring that its democratic processes reflect the collective aspirations of Ndi Igbo.
