With just five days to go before the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, Nigeria is set to join the global sporting community in a historic event that will bring the Olympic movement to African soil for the first time, from October 31 to November 13.
The Games, scheduled to run until November 13, will be the first Olympic sporting event to take place on African soil, with approximately 2,700 young athletes from across the world expected to participate.
The National Sports Commission (NSC) said Nigeria’s participation would provide an important platform to showcase emerging talents, strengthen youth sports development and prepare young athletes for future Olympic success.
With the motto, “Africa Welcomes, Dakar Celebrates,” the Games will offer young athletes an opportunity to gain international experience while promoting the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect.
The Commission noted that the competition represents a significant milestone for African sports, providing young athletes across the continent with an opportunity to compete on a global stage.
As preparations enter the final phase, the NSC and the Nigeria Olympic Committee remain committed to advancing sports development and creating more opportunities for young Nigerian athletes to excel internationally.
