The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has commenced an investigation into an incident involving a Challenger 604 aircraft operated by Triton, after its door separated shortly after take-off from Abuja.
The incident occurred on October 16, 2026, when the aircraft, with registration number T7-SEI, departed Abuja for Lagos at 1612 UTC, a statement by the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Bureau, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., noted.
According to the NSIB, the crew declared a mayday at a height of 3,500 feet, approximately three nautical miles into the flight, following the door separation.
The aircraft subsequently returned to Abuja and landed safely on Runway 22 at 1634 UTC.
The Bureau confirmed that nine persons were on board the aircraft, comprising three crew members and six passengers. No further details on injuries were provided in the statement.
The NSIB said the separated door had been recovered and secured at its wreckage hangar as investigations commenced to establish the circumstances surrounding the occurrence.
The Bureau added that further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
