The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has said its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) has become temporarily unavailable, disrupting the platform through which admissions into tertiary institutions across the country are processed.
In a statement, by the Board’s Acting Director, Public Affairs and Protocol, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, it said the disruption, which began earlier on Wednesday, resulted from technical challenges linked to the platform’s hosting arrangements. It said it has commenced intensive engagement with the hosting organisation to identify and resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
JAMB acknowledged the sensitivity of the timing, noting that the outage comes at a peak period of the admission exercise, when institutions are actively processing admissions, candidates are awaiting decisions, and multiple stakeholders are simultaneously accessing the platform.
The Board said it chose to disclose the development promptly, in line with its commitment to transparency, rather than leave candidates and institutions to speculate about the cause of the disruption.
The Board apologised for the inconvenience and assured stakeholders that it is working round the clock with the hosting organisation to restore CAPS to full functionality within the shortest possible time. It said it would also review the circumstances surrounding the disruption to put measures in place to prevent a recurrence, and pledged to provide further updates as developments unfold.
