The Diaspora Boys Movement has declared its support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying Nigerians living abroad in more than 100 countries are being mobilised to support the President ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Director-General of the movement, Tunde Olofin, disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja while speaking at the Association of Corporate Online Editors (ACOE) Roundtable Initiative programme.
Olofin said the movement had established structures and coordinators in different countries and across Nigeria as part of efforts to galvanise support for Tinubu’s candidacy.
He said the group’s decision to support the President was based on what it described as significant reforms and achievements of the administration since it assumed office in 2023.
According to him, the movement believes that the economic, youth empowerment and infrastructure reforms introduced by the administration are laying the foundation for sustainable development and long-term prosperity.
Olofin particularly cited the removal of the petrol subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange market as difficult but necessary decisions taken by the administration to restore fiscal stability and improve Nigeria’s investment environment.
He said the reforms had contributed to increased revenue available for distribution among the three tiers of government and had helped improve the country’s investment outlook.
The Director-General said the movement was also encouraged by what it described as renewed interest from foreign investors and efforts by the Federal Government to create a more conducive environment for private-sector-led economic growth.
Youth empowerment
Olofin also highlighted youth-focused programmes introduced by the Tinubu administration, including the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme.
He said the initiatives demonstrated the administration’s recognition of young Nigerians as important participants in national development.
The movement cited Federal Government figures indicating that NELFUND had supported more than 1.5 million students as of May 2026, with more than N282 billion disbursed, while the 3MTT programme is designed to equip three million Nigerians with technical skills.
Olofin said such initiatives, if sustained, could expand access to education and skills development while improving opportunities for young Nigerians.
Infrastructure investments
The Diaspora Boys Movement also commended the Federal Government’s infrastructure agenda, citing the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, Sokoto-Badagry Highway, railway development, power-sector reforms and investments in agriculture.
According to the group, the projects are expected to improve connectivity, stimulate economic activity and create opportunities for Nigerians.
The movement further praised what it described as the administration’s commitment to democratic values, including the rule of law, press freedom and engagement with civil society, student organisations and grassroots groups.
It maintained that the reforms were beginning to produce measurable economic outcomes, citing improving macroeconomic indicators, increased foreign reserves and renewed investor interest.
President Tinubu had, in an August 2026 statement, said Nigeria’s foreign reserves had reached their highest level in 17 years, while describing the economy as stabilised following the implementation of the administration’s reforms.
Diaspora voting
Beyond supporting Tinubu’s re-election, Olofin said the movement would advocate greater participation of Nigerians in the diaspora in the country’s electoral process.
He said the group would engage the National Assembly and other stakeholders on the possibility of introducing diaspora voting, which would allow eligible Nigerians living abroad to participate in elections without travelling to Nigeria.
“We are going to challenge, push and champion the National Assembly. We are going to push for collaboration and attract more people,” he said.
Olofin said Nigerians in the diaspora had continued to contribute significantly to the Nigerian economy through remittances, investments and support for families and communities at home.
He argued that such contributions should be complemented by greater opportunities for Nigerians abroad to participate in the country’s democratic process.
Global mobilisation
The Director-General said the Diaspora Boys Movement currently had groups and members in several countries, including France, Malaysia, the United States, The Gambia, Sudan and Turkey, as well as structures in Nigeria.
He said the organisation was still compiling its membership figures across its various chapters but maintained that its international reach provided a platform for sustained engagement with Nigerians abroad.
According to him, the movement’s mobilisation efforts would not be restricted to the 2027 elections, as it intends to remain involved in civic and electoral matters beyond the current election cycle.
He said the group would continue to engage communities, young people and Nigerians in the diaspora on issues concerning governance, development and national unity.
The movement, however, acknowledged that some of the economic reforms had created difficulties for Nigerians, particularly during their initial implementation.
It nevertheless urged citizens to remain patient as the government consolidated the gains it said were emerging from the reforms.
The Diaspora Boys Movement said it would continue to support initiatives it believes promote good governance, youth inclusion, economic development and national unity, while mobilising its structures in Nigeria and abroad ahead of the 2027 elections.
